When we book a wedding, we first connect with the bride and groom and make sure that we know precisely how they envision their wedding day going. After all, it’s their day, and it’s a day that happens to have – even the ones that go smoothly – a lot of pressure leading up to it. Once we have all of the information that we need, such as whether or not there will be a garter toss or money dance, etc., what songs they would like to hear (and not hear!), we make sure that we have at least one person that we can connect with on the actual day of the wedding. Someone who is preferably not the bride or the groom that knows exactly what the bride and groom want and how they want it. That person is usually a coordinator, but a lot of times is a friend or relative (by the way, if it’s a big wedding, we highly recommend staying away from having friends or family members run the show – trust us, it’s better to hire a coordinator for those or let us and the banquet facility manager handle the timeline).
Cheese-Free Wedding Experience
When beginning a search for a Professional Wedding DJ, one of the first things you’re bound to hear will be stories (if you don’t already have your own experience) of over-the-top, “cheesy” DJs that have ruined (or at the very least created an embarrassing situation/memory for the bride and groom) a wedding reception by being the center of attention. You know the type; making corny jokes on the microphone, wearing funny hats and/or costumes, making guests and even the bride and groom wear funny costumes, playing off-color music for laughs, etc.
Let us set your mind at ease about how Milestones DJ handles wedding receptions. We are fun, but professional. It’s (and you’ll hear this a lot from us) YOUR day, not ours. We don’t bring props (unless you want us to), we aren’t loud to the point of being obnoxious (we do have commanding voices, but that’s required to get everyone’s attention when making important announcements), and we don’t purposely embarrass the bride and groom (or anyone, for that matter) – with or without props. We are there to facilitate your wedding day and the entertainment that makes the entire event run smoothly and to create a fun, memorable atmosphere for everyone in attendance. Beyond that, we perform to your specifications always.
Also in this category are songs that are considered “cheesy” and we don’t automatically play those songs. For example: The Chicken Dance, The Hokey Pokey, Macarena, etc. If your guests request any song that might be considered “cheesy”, we’ll ask you first if you’re okay with playing it.
Enjoy Your Day
We only interrupt the bride and groom to let them know when they have to be doing something (cake cutting, first dance, etc.). Other than that, it’s our philosophy that the bride and groom shouldn’t even wear a watch. They should just enjoy the day with their guests and leave the details up to us and their wedding day coordinator. All of the hard work is done and it’s time to have fun and enjoy the day!
You’d think that the philosophies above would be a natural thing for Wedding DJs, but you might be very surprised (not a good thing to be on your wedding day, in our opinion). There are a lot of people who know a lot about music and own some PA equipment and a great music library. This does NOT mean they are well versed in being a Professional Wedding DJ. Not even close.
A Professional Wedding DJ Guarantees Your Wedding Is A Success
True enough these days, anyone can play music, but a Professional Wedding DJ does a lot more than that — as you’ve probably figured out by this point of this page. A Professional Wedding DJ not only has a wide range of music from every era, but knows the music and knows how and when to use it. Every reception is different and if a Professional Wedding DJ can hit on a few song sets that makes everyone in attendance happy and dancing while making the day’s events run smoothly, you’ll have fond memories of your special day…and so will your friends and family. Our professional reputation relies on it.
Please review our personal references and give us a call with any questions. We believe that once you’ve talked with us on the phone and read our references page, you’ll feel comfortable assigning your wedding day entertainment and coordination to us.
As a Professional Wedding DJ company, are in contact with the bride and groom as well as the designated coordinator prior to the wedding day just to make sure we’re all in sync. We arrive at the wedding totally prepared, usually one and a half to two hours prior to the scheduled start time.
During the wedding reception (we can also perform the ceremony music), we work with the designated coordinator to make the day special. Since we act as master of ceremonies, announcing each portion of the day, we make sure that everyone involved in the wedding is prepared. For example, we will let the photographer, videographer, bride and groom, etc. know well in advance when we’ll be playing the first dance song or when we’re getting ready to do the garter and bouquet toss. Doing things this way ensures that all involved are ready to go (you wouldn’t want your photographer loading a card in his or her camera while you are beginning your first dance as husband and wife, right?).
Free Wedding Planning & Music Request Software
We have a web-based wedding event planning software tool (included with every package) that allows you to organize your wedding timeline, events, music (you can even preview songs!), make payments, change your event information, and much more – all from any computer that is connected to the Internet. This software is free to all of our customers and helps us both to make sure that we are on the same page (so to speak) when it comes to your important day.

The iPod (or Friend) vs. Professional Wedding DJ
If you are considering hiring a friend-of-a-friend who happens to DJ on the side (“Hey, my cousin has an iPod – save your money, dude!”) or you are hiring a nightclub DJ (“How exactly do you beat mix Elton John with Ella Fitzgerald? In fact, who is Ella Fitzgerald?”) with little or no wedding reception experience, you are rolling the dice on how well your event will be managed and coordinated. An iPod might save you money (of course, you have to rent a PA system to project the music and have all songs pre-loaded), but it can’t organize an event and keep things on track throughout the day. An iPod can’t make quick decisions or notify the other wedding vendors when the cake cutting is about to begin. There are many club and party DJs out there, but if they are not trained to manage wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions and/or don’t regularly work weddings, they may not have the breadth of music or the experience required to perform for an audience made up of ages ranging from 1 to 101. We’ve been performing as a Professional Wedding DJs and MCs since 1987 and have music that dates back to the turn of the last century all the way through to the current Billboard Hot 100 charting singles today. Not only do we have that span of musical genres, but we know the songs and more importantly, we know the right time to play them to create a fun atmosphere for you and your guests.
No Unsightly Cables or Banners
At Professional Wedding DJ company Milestones DJ, we believe in making sure our customer has the event they were hoping for. We are not about self-promotion, so you won’t find large banners with our logo at your wedding. All of our equipment is black so it won’t clash with your wedding decor – no matter what the color. Our equipment is set up behind a professional facade so your guests don’t have to view sound equipment or cables hanging all over the place. We are not the focus of attention – it’s your day.
The Bottom Line
You will always be able to find a cheaper DJ, but it’s like having a beautiful Japanese garden at your home that is very important to you — you can hire the neighbor kid to take care of it (only paying them a few bucks) and take your chances or you can hire a professional who knows how to make it thrive. That’s the difference: Quality, reliability, experience and expertise.
